Prague is the capital and largest city of the Czech Republic. Situated on the River Vltava in central Bohemia, Prague has been the political, cultural, and economic center of the Czech state for more than 1100 years. The city proper is home to more than 1.2 million people, while its metropolitan area is estimated to have a population of over 1.9 million.
Since 1992, the extensive historic centre of Prague has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
Charles University in Prague is the oldest and largest university in the Czech Republic. Founded in 1348, it was the first university in the Holy Roman Empire and in Central Europe in general. It is one of the oldest universities in Europe.
According to the recent Academic Ranking of World Universities by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, it ranked as the leading university in the Czech Republic and the second one in Central and Eastern Europe after the Moscow University.
The university has a large number of faculties; MCI students can attend courses at the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Social Sciences.
