The City
Lille is situated in northern France, near the border with Belgium. It has 227,000 inhabitants. A former major mechanical, food industry and textile manufacturing centre as well as a retail and finance center, Lille forms the heart of a larger conurbation, regrouping Lille, Roubaix, Tourcoing and Villeneuve d'Ascq, which is France's 4th-largest urban conglomeration with a 1999 population of over 1.1 million.
The University
Founded in 1875, and unique in France, the Université Catholique de Lille is a multidisciplinary institution which combines 5 faculties, 20 schools, institutes, and Grandes Ecoles as well as a hospital group. France's largest private, non-profit university offers approx. 300 degree programs in six areas of study. MCI collaborates with three institutes: IÉSEG, JUNIA and ISL.
JUNIA is a French graduate school of science and engineering focused on ecological, digital and technological transitions. On its 3 campuses in France (Lille, Bordeaux and Châteauroux) its 5,000 students can choose between 40 specialisation options in 7 fields of study. With its 340 partner universities it is a very internationally oriented institution of higher education.
