MCI Goes Hollywood: “Gladiator 2” Event with Co-Producer Winston Azzopardi

Film screening and subsequent discussion at the Metropol Cinema with Winston Azzopardi, CEO Latina Pictures

MCI once again brought a world-renowned personality to Innsbruck as part of its Distinguished Guest Lecture Series. Winston Azzopardi, CEO of Latina Pictures and co-producer of Hollywood blockbusters such as “Jurassic World” and “Troy”, graced the Metropol Cinema for a film screening of his recent production “Gladiator 2” and subsequent discussion.

Winston Azzopardi, CEO of Latina Pictures and co-producer of Hollywood blockbusters such as “Jurassic World” and “Troy”, graced the Metropol Cinema for a film screening of his recent production “Gladiator 2” and subsequent discussion.

The event kicked off in the largest auditorium in Western Austria, where excitement and anticipation filled the air. In his opening address, Winston Azzopardi encouraged the guests to engage actively: "The audience's reactions are valuable feedback for us – you are warmly invited to applaud, boo, laugh.” Consequently, the spectacular screening was accompanied by enthusiastic intermittent applause, especially during the most gripping scenes.

Following the screening, Winston Azzopardi joined Rector Andreas Altmann on stage to address questions from the audience. The discussion, enriched with impressive behind-the-scenes material, provided fascinating insights into various aspects of film production—from props and budgeting to the use of visual effects and AI. He elaborated on his crucial role in the production process: “I am responsible for production, especially during the preparation phase. I find the locations, bring everything together, and make it happen.”

Azzopardi also shared intriguing anecdotes about working with star actors Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, and Paul Mescal, and the world-famous director Ridley Scott. “It was a great honor to work with such an amazing and highly professional team,” he said, reflecting on the experience.

Andreas Altmann concluded the successful event by expressing gratitude to Metropol Cinema Innsbruck, Reinhold Kraner, Cine Tirol, the MCI Team and distinguished guest Winston Azzopardi, emphasizing the significance of bridging the gap between academia and industry.
