As part of its Distinguished Guest Lecture Series, MCI was honored to welcome H.E. Victoria Roșa, Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Austria and Slovakia. In her keynote, Ambassador Roșa offered fascinating insights into the Republic of Moldova – a country in transition, firmly committed to its European path despite geopolitical challenges.
Following the lecture, Siegfried Walch, Head of the MCI Department of Nonprofit, Social & Health Care Management, moderated an engaging discussion with questions from the audience. Topics included Moldova’s neutrality, the unresolved Transnistrian conflict, and the role of women in peace processes. Roșa emphasized that civic participation and open communication are key pillars of sustainable security.
Furthermore, she highlighted Moldova’s closeness to Austria – both geographically and socially – and urged the audience to see Moldova as a part of Europe: “Moldova is closer than you think.” Special emphasis was placed on societal change, particularly among younger generations, who are increasingly connected to Europe through educational programs, for example.
In conclusion, Ambassador Roșa made a heartfelt appeal to Europe to recognize Moldova as a valuable partner: “We are a democratic, European country – with a rich culture, an open-minded society, and a strong work ethic.” With openness and determination, Moldova strives to take its rightful place within the European community and contribute actively to its development.
