Driving digital transformation with the help of start-up methods
New digital technologies can disrupt traditional products, industries and business models, putting even large companies under pressure. While most established companies are very adept at developing incremental innovations to existing products in familiar market segments, it is particularly difficult to deal with ground-breaking innovations, often based on digital technologies. Existing companies are primarily good at executing already successful and profitable business models. However, dealing with potentially disruptive ideas and technologies that do not yet have an established business model requires companies to work in a "search mode" - similar to a start-up - to look for a new, profitable business model. However, companies that want to successfully master the challenges posed by digital technologies can acquire the best of both worlds by properly integrating different start-up methods into a larger corporate context.
Developing this capability is the focus of the MCI certificate program in Corporate Entrepreneurship, which teaches the principles, methods and tools that companies can use to build new technology skills and develop ground-breaking new business models at the same time as implementing their already successful business models.
Numerous internationally successful, innovative companies have shown how this balancing act can be achieved and more and more established companies in the DACH region - Palfinger, Andritz, Zeiss, Boehringer Ingelheim, UNIQA, etc. - are following these examples. While established innovation management is primarily strong in portfolio management, this course shows how start-up methods can be successfully anchored in an established company in modern practice and used for digital innovations - a cutting-edge approach for every successful company that wants to utilise the potential of disruptive technologies for growth and security in addition to its core business.
