Lukas Kerschbaumer undertook studies in Educational Science (B.A.) and Sociology (B.A.) from 2008 to 2012 and Social and Political Theory (M.A.) from 2012 to 2014 at the Leopold-Franzens-University of Innsbruck. During this period, he was employed at the Institute of Sociology on a project examining poverty dynamics in the context of the implementation of the means-tested minimum income scheme. From 2015 to autumn 2018, he was a researcher at the Institute for Employment Research Nuremberg (IAB), the research institute of the Federal Employment Agency in Germany. There he worked in the research areas "Labour Market and Social Security Panel" (PASS) and "Unemployment and Participation". In 2023, he received his PhD in Sociology from the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich. His research interests encompass social dynamics, long-term unemployment, poverty research, qualitative methods and network research, as well as the integration and participation of refugees and young people in the labour market and society. Additionally, he contributes to the Centre for Social and Health Innovation at MCI | The Entrepreneurial School®, where he investigates the influence of social contexts on health and health literacy. His teaching specialises in social management, welfare state theory, ethics and human rights, and qualitative social research. Since September 2022, he has served as the head of the Bachelor's degree programme in Social, Health & Public Management at MCI.
