Social work students organize traditional sofa festival to celebrate the end of the semester and donate the net proceeds to a Tyrolean women’s shelter and men’s counseling association
Organized by students of the MCI Department of Social Work, the second sofa festival of the academic year took place at the beginning of June for students, graduates, friends and network partners to celebrate the end of the summer term. The net proceeds of the two festivals add up to the impressive sum of 2,500 euros, which, by unanimous decision of the organizing committee, will be shared equally between the associations Mannsbilder for men’s counseling and Tiroler Frauenhaus, a women’s shelter.
In the presence of MCI Rector Andreas Altmann and Head of Department & Studies Belachew Gebrewold, the donation was recently presented to Gabi Plattner, managing director of Frauenhaus Tirol, and Gotthard Bertsch from Mannsbilder.
“It is very important to us to set an example with our commitment to society and to support people struggling with major problems in their lives,” Patrizia Staffler from the organizing committee of the sofa festival explains.
Mannsbilder provides men and young men in difficult life situations with the opportunity to have an open and honest conversation between men. The women’s shelter Frauenhaus Tirol, a dedicated victim protection and crisis facility, supports women and children at risk of physical, psychological and sexual violence.
The sofa festival is organized by students of the Bachelor’s and Master’s courses at the MCI Department of Social Work and takes place regularly at the end of the semester. The festival usually centers on excellent live acts, a legendary chili con and sin carne and delicious homemade cakes. The net proceeds of the sofa festival are donated to social institutions.
