The Entrepreneurial School® awards professorship to Silvia Öttl, PhD

In recognition of her outstanding achievements in research and teaching and her exemplary contributions to the further development of the Entrepreneurial School®, the MCI recently awarded the professorship to Silvia Öttl of the Smart Building Technologies department. In the presence of family, friends, colleagues, and business partners, she was presented with the honor by MCI Rector Andreas Altmann and Head of the Academic Council Franz Pegger, before giving a fascinating glimpse into her research in her subsequent inaugural lecture.

In 2003, Silvia Öttl began her academic career at the University of Innsbruck, where she obtained her bachelor's and master's degrees as well as a PhD in physics. This was followed by a post-doctoral position at the Institute for Astro- and Particle Physics. She then worked for Bereiter, the labor inspectorate and Bartenbach, before returning to the academic world and pursuing another post-doctoral position, this time as a scientific project assistant at the Unit of Material Technology.

In 2021, her path finally led her to the then newly founded MCI department Smart Building Technologies, where she has been a Senior Lecturer ever since, focusing on topics such as energy technology, renewable energy systems, lighting technology, and thermodynamics. In 2022, she was awarded the coveted MCI Teaching Award for her outstandingly evaluated courses. However, not only students appreciate her expertise, her colleagues also praise her versatile skills: "Silvia is an academic 'Swiss army knife'. She is a born lecturer, a wonderful colleague, and the kind of academic you could only wish for. Our department would not be the same without her."
