Many highlights, a big thank you, and an unforgettable celebration

10 years of BWLO

Friday June 7th, we celebrated an incredible milestone: Betriebswirtschaft Online (BWLO) has now been around for 10 years! This article reflects on our journey so far and offers a glimpse into what lies ahead.

Highlights Over the Decade

In a decade, a lot can happen, and a lot did happen for BWLO. Here's a look back at some of our key milestones:

  • 2014: Professor Matthias Seeler founded BWLO and became the first head. The first cohort of students began their studies.

  • 2016: The English track, Business Administration Online, was introduced, and MCI achieved AACSB accreditation.

  • 2017: We celebrated our first alumni and launched the Master in Corporate Governance and Finance.

  • 2018: We bid farewell to Professor Matthias Seeler and welcomed Professor Maria Pammer as the new Head of the Department.

  • 2021: MCI receives FIBAA Excellence in Digital Education Label.

  • 2022: Professor Christiane Aufschnaiter starts as the new Head of Studies, after many years of working as research assistant

  • 2023: Professor Antje Bierwisch established the UNESCO Chair in Futures Capabilities for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

  • 2024: Looking ahead, we are excited to launch our new Master in Business Psychology & Management in September.

A big thank you

To our students: Your commitment to lifelong learning is inspiring. You are the heart of our department, and we strive to continually develop our program to inspire you further.

To our pioneers: Matthias Seeler, Karin Sixl-Daniell, Claudia Heinisch, and others. Your dedication and professional commitment laid the foundation for our success.

To our partners and lecturers: Your continuous support and inspiration are invaluable, enriching our students' learning experiences.

To our colleagues: Your efforts in delivering inspiring lectures, fostering a positive learning environment, expanding research fields, and supporting our students are the backbone of our success. Despite these numerous achievements, you still find time to be our Chief Cake Officers, ensuring every colleague enjoys a home-baked cake on their birthday.

The celebration

We marked this milestone with a grand "Alumni Learn & Talk: Continuing Growth & Development" event. Alumni, partners, and students from the 2022 BWLO and BAO cohorts joined us for this special day. Deniz Kayadelen told her story about ‘Out of Comfort Zone’ in her inspiring key-note speech. Deniz Kayadelen is a senior manager at Big4, bestselling author, and former world champion ice and extreme swimmer. The event also featured diverse workshops led by our lecturers, engaging panel discussions with our alumni, and concluded with a networking buffet.

Thank you for being part of our BWLO journey, and we are looking forward to celebrating the next 10 years with you.
