The Entrepreneurial School® confers professorship to Dr. Martin Spruck, MSc

In recognition of his outstanding achievements in research and teaching and his exemplary contributions to the further development of the Entrepreneurial School®, the MCI recently awarded the professorship to Martin Spruck from the department of Environmental, Process & Energy Engineering. In the presence friends and colleagues, he was presented with his certificates by MCI Rector Andreas Altmann and Head of the Academic Council Franz Pegger, before giving fascinating insights into his research areas in his subsequent inaugural lecture.

Martin started his career at MCI as a student, where he completed a bachelor's and master's degree in Environmental, Process and Biotechnology between 2005 and 2010. This was followed by a doctorate in Chemistry at the Leopold-Franzens-University Innsbruck at the Research Institute for Textile Chemistry and Textile Physics. Since 2016, he has been a lecturer at the MCI in the department of Environmental, Process & Energy Engineering and focuses on the areas of plant & process engineering, materials engineering, and process engineering topics.

In addition, he has headed the Energy & Process Technologies research cluster since 2019. His research focuses on the distribution and storage of energy from biogenic raw materials and renewable sources as well as on the research field of water with a focus on wastewater, process water, and potable water. In 2020, he received the Award for Research & Innovation of the City of Innsbruck for his research “Development of a process combination for the elimination of trace substances in wastewater based on membrane filtration and adsorption on activated carbon”.

His inaugural lecture on “Solutions in environmental, process and energy engineering for the challenges of our time” dealt with the pressing environmental problems that threaten our modern society, focusing on the challenges of climate change, resource scarcity, and environmental pollution. The presentation highlighted technologies and processes that can help to overcome these problems and minimize our ecological footprint.
