MCI Awards Senatorship to Norbert Netzer

Date 2024-07-19

Academic honor for many years of service to MCI & location

In recognition of his outstanding achievements in founding and establishing the MCI, his sustained and personal commitment and his long-standing loyalty, MCI | The Entrepreneurial School® awards the honorary senatorship to Ao. Univ.-Prof. Dr. Norbert Netzer.

Norbert Netzer has been a key figure at MCI for many years, particularly in the development and establishment of the technical degree programs, which at the time were scarce in Tyrol. As the first Head of Department & Studies, he played a significant role in shaping and developing the technical degree programs at MCI. He held his role as Head of Process, Bio & Environmental Engineering from 1998 to 2003 and worked as a lecturer at MCI from 1996 to 2024 in various subject areas, particularly in mathematics and statistics.

As a universally respected and popular academic lecturer, designer, mentor, and supporter, he has accompanied generations of young people and paved the way for exciting careers. With his calm, balanced, prudent, and kind-hearted manner, he has taken away people's fear of difficult tasks. Norbert Netzer has done groundwork for Tyrol as a hub of education, science, and business, leading to 1,500 dedicated students now studying technical disciplines at MCI.

Cornelia Hagele, Science Councilor: “Tyrol cannot survive in international competition with cheap mass-produced goods, but only with innovative, high-quality, and sophisticated products and services. Technical disciplines and excellently trained people are the key to this. We are grateful to personalities such as Senator h.c. Dr. Norbert Netzer for their visionary creative power.”

Oswald Wolkenstein, Chairman of the MCI Supervisory Board: “Senator h.c. Norbert Netzer has been a driving force, motivator, and companion for students, lecturers, and staff at MCI for many years and has left a lasting mark through his dedicated work and personal commitment. The MCI and the Tyrolean economy extend their sincere thanks for his tireless commitment and congratulate him on receiving the title of senator!”

Franz Pegger, Head of the MCI Academic Council: “I don't know who would embody the MCI's guiding principle 'Mentoring the motivated' more patiently, sympathetically, and warmly than Senator h.c. Dr. Norbert Netzer. Countless people would not have been able to follow the path that Norbert Netzer has opened up for them and will continue to do so in the future.”

Andreas Altmann, MCI Rector: “As a member of our then very small management team back in the day, Senator h.c. Norbert Netzer was an important catalyst, driving force, and constructive spirit of MCI during crucial years. He impressed us with his authenticity, openness, and prudence, while always keeping an eye on the big picture. The MCI and Tyrol as a location for science, technology, and education are deeply grateful to him.”
