"We should stop delighting young people with gifts. What they need are opportunities."  This is the guiding principle of the technical study program that will be offered by MCI in Lienz starting in the fall of 2025.

Specifically, the first year will be offered jointly for four technical study programs:

  • Environmental, Process & Energy Engineering
  • Mechatronics
  • Medical, Health & Sports Technologies
  • Industrial Engineering & Management

This offers several advantages for young people:

  • They can begin a technical degree without having to choose a specific field of study at the start.
  • They can complete the first year of study at the Lienz campus, live at home affordably, and maintain their connections with family, work, friends, hobbies, and clubs.
  • The time model for the first year consists of two and a half blocked days of lectures, allowing students to work part-time alongside their studies.
  • Starting in the second year, students can continue their chosen technical degree either full-time or part-time at campus in Innsbruck.
    •  Full-time:
      • Medical, Health & Sports Technologies
      • Mechatronics
    •  Part-time:
      • Industrial Engineering & Management
      • Environmental, Process & Energy Engineering
    • The third year consists of:
      • An international semester taught in English, either in Innsbruck with guest professors and students from partner universities, or at one of MCI's many partner universities around the world
      • An internship semester with a company, where the Bachelor's/Diploma thesis is also written (Semester 6).
    • Every MCI program is organized in close collaboration with the industry (including content, lecturers, projects, internships…) and offers exciting career opportunities, contacts, and networks both domestically and internationally.

As part of the information event, the new head of the MCI Campus Lienz was introduced. Mag. Hansjörg Jaufenthaler, MSc, born and raised in Lienz, studied International Business and Economic Education in Graz. His professional career has taken him to Vienna, Verona, and Upper Austria. After more than 20 years of working in renowned companies, he is now looking forward to establishing the technical program at the Campus Lienz in collaboration with MCI and the East Tyrolean economy, and to working with students, course leaders, companies, schools, and interest groups.

The information event wrapped up with a guest lecture by Hermann Erlach, the Managing Director of Microsoft Austria, who comes from East Tyrol. He shared fascinating insights into the exciting possibilities of artificial intelligence.
