Two MCI Medical Technologies students receive prestigious Marshall Plan Scholarship for pioneering rehabilitation research at Yale School of Medicine

Each year, the Marshall Plan Foundation supports outstanding students with the Marshall Plan Scholarship to strengthen scientific exchange between Austria and the USA.

This year, MCI students Andreas Douven and Lukas Neururer have the unique opportunity to complete a research stay at the prestigious Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, with the support of the scholarship.

Both study at the MCI department of Medical & Health Technologies and will spend six months conducting research at the Yale School of Medicine as part of their final theses. During their stay, they will contribute to projects, attend lectures and seminars, build scientific collaborations, expand their personal networks, and bring valuable experiences back home.

Both are focusing on advanced, technology-assisted rehabilitation under the supervision of the esteemed Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation at Yale University.

  • Andreas Douven | Medical, Health & Sports Engineering | Bachelor
Thesis title: “Development and Clinical Evaluation of a Handheld Robotic Device for Spasticity Assessment and Rehabilitation”
  • Lukas Neururer | Medical & Sports Technologies | Master
Thesis title: “Robotic mirror therapy device for sensory-motor hand rehabilitation”

Yeongmi Kim, professor at the MCI department of Medical & Health Technologies and supervisor of both theses, explains: “I am immensely proud that Andreas Douven and Lukas Neururer have been awarded the prestigious Marshall Plan Scholarship. This recognition highlights the relevance of the technology-supported rehabilitation systems developed by our students as well as the great importance of interdisciplinary research. I am confident that this opportunity will not only further strengthen the research collaboration with Yale University but also lead to outstanding research results."
