In recognition of her outstanding achievements in research and teaching, as well as her exemplary contributions to the further development of the Entrepreneurial School®, MCI has recently awarded the title of professor to Birgit Bosio from the Department of Tourism & Leisure Business. Surrounded by colleagues and long-time companions, she received the honor from MCI Rector Andreas Altmann and Deputy Head of the Academic Council Claudia Mössenlechner before offering fascinating insights into her research areas in her inaugural lecture.
Birgit Bosio completed her degree in in Tourism & Leisure Business at MCI in 2004 and earned her PhD in Economics from the University of Salzburg in 2016. In between, she worked for various renowned companies, including Tirol Werbung and More than metrics GmbH.
Since 2006, she has been working as a research assistant at the MCI Department of Tourism & Leisure Business and has been a lecturer since 2019. Additionally, she actively contributes to the advancement of the Entrepreneurial School® as an SDG Ambassador and brings her expertise to research projects, teaching, and lectures in the tourism sector.
In her inaugural lecture, titled "Airbnb as a Transformation in Rural Areas", she presented the results of a pioneering analysis of the Airbnb phenomenon in Tyrol. The study examined regional hotspots of Airbnb listings and compared the findings with developments in the Swiss canton of Valais.
