On July 19, our EU law expert Dr. Markus Frischhut conducted a very special workshop together with Barbara Stibernitz LL.M. from fh gesundheit. A total of 24 children between the ages of 10 and 16 were able to take part in a mini-moot court, a simulated court hearing, as part of the Young University of Innsbruck.
This mini-mootcourt took place at the Higher Regional Court Innsbruck and was chaired by Thomas Wallnöfer, Judge for Criminal Law. During this mini-mootcourt, the young lawyers were able to deal with obvious topics such as cyberbullying, defamation and theft.
"As lawyers, we want to sensitize children to justice and injustice in everyday situations, strengthen their moral courage and awaken their enthusiasm for democracy and the independent administration of justice," say Barbara Stibernitz and Markus Frischhut.
From the prosecutor's presentation of the facts to the judge's verdict, it was up to the children to shape the trial.
After the successful conclusion of the trial, the group was given a guided tour of the Higher Regional Court, followed by a visit to the police station.
Finally, we would like to thank the Young University of Innsbruck for organizing the event, as well as Judge Thomas Wallnöfer and the Science Ambassadors Barbara Stibernitz, LL.M., and FH-Prof. Dr. Frischhut, LL.M., for carrying out the project.
