As part of the MCI’s 25-anniversary celebrations, the Nonprofit, Social & Health Care Management department hosted on the 8th of June, 2021 a webinar with Dr. Eric Feigl-Ding to address his remarkable insights on social media science communication in public health with a focus on the case of COVID-19. Dr. Feigl-Ding is a MCI lecturer, epidemiologist, and health economist. In January 2020, he was recognized in the media as one of the first to alert the public on the pandemic risk of COVID-19. His efforts are focused on analyzing COVID-19 trends, stopping COVID-19 misinformation, advocating for public health, and improving health policy. As a Web of Science Highly Cited Researcher, he was ranked in 2018 as among the Top 1% of all scientists worldwide, and named among the 186 top-cited scholars across Harvard University.

During the start of the pandemic, he stressed the importance of social media in alerting the public and also, in keeping the public informed with the latest developments on both the national and international levels. He also illustrated how powerful social media is in communicating sophisticated scientific papers and reports in a more comprehensible manner to the public. Dr. Feigl-Ding concluded the webinar by stating that the precautionary approach is still recommended in light of the latest mutations and the vaccination rates worldwide.

The webinar was part of the digital jubilee program organized by MCI | The Entrepreneurial School®.
