Study programme symposium "A chance to change - Climate - Change - Society"

Date 2022-02-23

Kick-off of the project semester for students of the Bachelor's programme Nonprofit, Social and Health Management

To kick off the fourth semester, students of the Bachelor's program Nonprofit, Social and Health Management had the chance to attend a two-and-a-half-day symposium in mid-February and thus experience a successful "kick-off" to their project semester.

The event was opened by Heinz Fuchsig, environmental spokesperson of the Austrian Medical Association, with a keynote speech on "CLIMATECHANGESHEALTH - Can we learn from climate change?". This was followed by lectures and discussions by and with graduates of the Nonprofit, Social & Health Management (BA) and International Health & Social Management (MA) programs. The annual symposium aims to provide students with insights into practice and thus show them perspectives and professional development opportunities.

During the encounter with alumni, the students were able to learn about current and future challenges in the non-profit, social and health care sectors. In addition to the theoretical discussion of current scientific findings, there were also concrete approaches to solutions and tips for a more sustainable way of life. In the contribution to the fictitious village Globo, the distribution of resources on earth was demonstrated interactively with reference to the Social Development Goals (SDGs) and a lively discussions took place afterward.

Ecological, social and economic sustainability were also at the forefront of the planning and implementation of the event. With the support of Klimabündnis Tirol, the event was able to get an accreditation as a GREEN EVENT TIROL. Green Events Tirol is an initiative of Klimabündnis Tirol and Umwelt Verein Tirol in cooperation with Land Tirol to promote an environmentally and socially compatible event culture. The award is based on a catalogue of measures specially drawn up for the Tyrol.
