LAST GENERATION: DO WE NEED SMALL STEPS OR A BIG REVOLUTION?

MCI-Philosophicum discussion on challenges and opportunities in dealing with climate change

Since 2015, the MCI-Philosophicum of the Nonprofit, Social and Health Management program has offered a unique platform for discussing important topics of our time and exchanging experiences between older and younger generations. Once again, high-profile personalities from various backgrounds, including Mag.a Elisabeth Rathgeb, Caritas Director Tyrol, Dr.in Christine Baur, former Social Minister, Prof. h.c. Dr. Eric Veulliet, geologist and president of the Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Michael Baubin, Medical Director Rescue Service Tyrol, and Katharina Geistlinger, physicist and climate activist, have agreed to formulate theses on current issues and engage in philosophical dialogue with MCI students this year.

The discussions focused on the following questions: Are the actions of the last generation the best and most sustainable form of protest? What do we need to do to finally bring about change? In addition, the participants debated whether everyone can make a difference or whether change is only possible at a structural level.

The MCI-Philosophicum, founded by Lothar Müller and now organized by Dietmar Schennach, offers students a unique opportunity to directly engage with experts and benefit from their experiences and knowledge. Head of the MCI Nonprofit, Social & Health Management department Siegfried Walch also drew a positive conclusion: "The discussions are always exciting and informative and contribute to the students developing a broader understanding of the current challenges of our time. The event shows that exchange between different generations and experts from different areas of society is essential to finding sustainable solutions for the future."
