Sustainability, planetary health, digitalization and social Impact: an innovative curriculum addressing tomorrow's challenges

Recently, we welcomed 66 students of the Nonprofit, Social & Health Care Management program during the MCI Welcome Day. After receiving all the essential information for a successful start to their studies, they took a guided tour of the MCI campus. During a coffee session, first-semester students had the opportunity to connect with their fellow classmates.

The bachelor's program in Nonprofit, Social & Health Care Management has undergone a comprehensive curriculum transformation to meet the demands of a changing world.

WHAT'S NEW & WHY?

The updates in the curriculum focus on current topics such as sustainability, planetary health, digitalization and social impact to optimally prepare students for their future challenges. One of the primary motivations for these changes was to retain the core of the program while integrating contemporary developments and future-focused themes.

The topic of sustainability serves as an interdisciplinary reference point, optimizing the cooperation between lecturers and allowing a coordinated overall teaching approach. The continuous integration of topics from the realms of nonprofit, social and health care management enables students to develop a holistic understanding of the challenges and opportunities in these areas.

In the new courses "Growth, Globalization & Planetary Health," "Results-Oriented Management & Social Impact," and "Digital & Green Transformation," students engage with current global challenges and establish connections between individual and planetary health.

WHAT MAKES THE NEW PROGRAM SPECIAL?

The bachelor's program in Nonprofit, Social & Health Care Management stands out for its forward-looking curriculum, strong practical relevance and international orientation. Graduates are well-prepared to make a positive and sustainable contribution to the fields of nonprofit, social and health care management and to tackle current challenges with innovative solutions.

A standout feature of the program is the continued emphasis on practical experience, particularly in the fourth semester. During this practical semester, students collaborate with partner organizations to creatively address real-world problems while considering the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In the fifth semester, the Interdisciplinary Elective offers students the opportunity to further develop their expertise beyond their core curriculum. The choice to interact with students from other disciplines promotes interdisciplinary and interconnected thinking, which is of highly significant for future professional profiles.

Finally, the program offers an enticing opportunity for an international semester at one of our numerous partner universities. This enables students to experience diversity, build international networks and enrich their resumes with valuable international experiences.
