“Silicon Valley is where the brainiest ideas meet the smartest money”. This is how The Economist summed up the essence of the world’s most vibrant and innovative tech-hub. 19 of our final semester MCiT master students are travelling to the Bay Area to experience the 8th annual MCiT Entrepreneurship Course Silicon Valley, from April 14-25th 2019, organized by Prof. Dr. Peter J. Mirski.

The first few days in the world’s most innovative and future-minded region are flying by. Our MCIT master students already found their home turf in the heart of the Silicon Valley ecosystem:  Open Austria connects Austrian entrepreneurs, scientists and creative talents with the Valley and its tremendous opportunities and provides a home base for them as well. Georg Fürlinger, Co-Director of Open Austria, hosted the session.

During a visit to the fellow AACSB accredited University of California, Berkeley, our students had a great lecture about the cultural origins of the tech mecca hosted by Cassandra Sciortino (UC Berkeley, Haas School of Business). Afterwards, they explored the campus and met with student start-ups at the university’s accelerator SkyDeck.

The day after, our students were invited to experience the future of the work-place: Bluescape's concept is to change the way teams work, interact and communicate to become more efficient, productive and innovative by using their interactive big wall screens. Interesting aspects for our future entrepreneurs.

Another highlight was the session with Christian Byza from LinkedIn: Christian guided our students through LinkedIn's San Francisco headquarter, presented them with the company’s career possibilities, and provided space for Q&As. The photo (© Marvin Hopfner, BA) was taken on the 17th floor of the building.
