"The best education is found by a clever man on his travels," Goethe already knew. For this reason (and maybe because there is not enough snow for skiing on the Nordkette at the moment) our MCiT Master students have made their way to Brussels. What they experienced there and who they met can be read in the report by Sonja Längle and Guillermo Retana.

How are decisions being made at the EU level? What do lobbyist do? What can we expect to be the next big thing in the EU? During our MCiT Study Tour to the European Union in Brussels, we received fascinating insights and at the same time many new questions have been coming up.

We talked to Mirjam Dondi and Werner Stengg of the permanent representation of Austria to the European Union. The interesting discussions were focused on the current developments of legislations of online platforms and E-commerce as well as the roles of the Commission, Parliament, and Council.

Later that day, we visited the Common Representation of the European Region Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino in Brussels where we discussed the importance of Lobbying and having a regional representation. One highlight of our Study Tour was meeting with Barbara Thaler, a previous MCIT student, who currently is a member of the European Parliament and is in the committee of Transport and Tourism.

We would like to thank Peter Mirski and the MCiT department for making this unique experience possible. A special thanks to Marcus Hofer and Emanuel Aichner for organizing everything and bearing with our excessive WhatsApp group conversation.
