Before I went to Taipei, Taiwan I had no expectations or clue how my life would look like for the next six months. Now, almost at the end of my semester abroad, I am very happy to have chosen this little island. The country is very green with both beaches, dense forests, high mountains and best of all – wild hot springs. What I love most about Taiwan is the fact that there is no excessive tourism. Exploring nature, you can find hidden waterfalls with no people so you can enjoy the fresh water all by yourself. Apart from the diverse nature the people are some of the friendliest and most helpful people I have met.

Of course, one cannot talk about Asia without mentioning the food. Since it is cheaper to go out and eat on the streets there is a lot of small restaurants and night markets. You can find many, many delicious things - dumplings, pork rice, beef noodle soup, green onion pancake, hot pot, shaved ice, seafood or if you are brave enough stinky tofu and 100-year-old eggs. Also, since the Taiwanese love Japan and generally have a very international population you can enjoy a variety of Asian food.

The real reason why I am here, is of course studying which is a bit different than back at home at MCI. It is interesting to gain some more insights into Asian economy and sometimes tough to understand the Chinese English of some professors. I’ve met a lot of great people from all over the world and travelled a fair bit.

Now, it’s only four weeks left before I’m heading back home, and I’ll enjoy every bit of it. Still, I cannot wait for some snow and skiing back in Innsbruck!

A valuable experience for life - MCiT students have the opportunity to spend their 3rd semester at one of the many partner universities around the world.
