20 years of the Department of Digitalization at MCI | The Entrepreneurial School®, we take the opportunity to look back with Prof. Dr. Peter J. Mirski on two extremely successful decades, to take a look into the future and to talk about the new MCiT Digital Entrepreneurship Master!

Mr. Mirski, MCiT studies, services & research is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. What are you looking back on? And what drives you?

It makes me very proud that we have been able to shape this really successful study program together for so long. We now have over 1,000 successful graduates who can creatively combine Management, Communication and IT with their expertise, and thus work on their and our future. Time has passed unbelievably quickly - of course we have constantly updated and adapted the program and also developed our research areas accordingly and integrated their findings into the teaching. When I look to the future - Big Data, analytics, security and also humans interacting with virtual worlds, for example in the so-called metaverse - are big areas where we still have a lot ahead of us.

Why did you decide to align the curriculum of your successful MCiT Master's program with a focus on Digital Entrepreneurship starting this fall?

We are constantly developing curricula based on our feedback from the business community, being aware of the needs in the labor market, the feedback from our students and graduates, but also, as mentioned, from findings in research. We believe that the entrepreneurial design approach - be it in the form of start-ups, but of course also in the currently particularly urgent restructuring of forms of work, production and cooperation - requires this sharpening. Thus, we will make further contributions to strengthening the competitiveness of our economy.

What distinguishes the new MCiT Digital Entrepreneurship Master?

The focus on shaping our digital economy in an entrepreneurial way. We have introduced additional elective modules so that students can specialize even more in areas that are particularly important to them. Likewise, we have integrated new forms of teaching, such as labs, or projects where you can fully immerse yourself in selected topics and develop your skills. Also we have adapted and increased the selection of partner universities, and more dual degrees are in concrete development. This gives our students crucial access to their own international network of graduates, experts and close partners from research and industry.

What’s your advice for young, motivated people?

It is so incredibly important to be actively involved in shaping our society and economy! Creatively mastering digitization and its challenges is our strength - our unique position through the combination of Management, Communication and IT makes the decisive difference.

Thank you very much for the interesting insights, Mr. Mirski!
