Semester Highlights Management and Media Camp 2024
Our fourth-semester bachelor’s students had the opportunity to participate in two special block courses this spring. Media Camp 2024, held in partnership with Metagame, focused on the theme of eSports. Under the motto "Create a Concept – Pitch an Idea – Go Live," the students showcased their creativity and teamwork. In parallel, Management Camp 2024, organized in cooperation with BMW, offered in-depth insights into the topic of eMobility. Here, students learned how sustainable technologies can be practically applied in modern business management.
MCiT master's students on Study Tour in Silicon Valley
For over 10 years, the MCiT master's program has traveled to Silicon Valley to explore trends and startups in the IT industry. This year, our fourth-semester master's students made the trip to the U.S. innovation hub from April 7th to 17th. We spoke with our Head of Department & Studies, Peter Mirski, about the insights and experiences gained from Silicon Valley. Read the full interview here.
Swarovski Internship Breakfast
Just before the end of the semester, we had the pleasure of welcoming Monika Domić to the MCI campus. She works as an HR Manager at SWAROVSKI and informed our bachelor’s and master’s students about the numerous job opportunities in Global Sales, Marketing, and Corporate IT at the Tyrolean crystal company. Over fresh coffee and delicious croissants, our students received valuable information and great insights. We are grateful for this longstanding cooperation!
CHE University Ranking: Top marks for our DiBSE study program
Participating for the first time and succeeding! Our Digital Business and Software Engineering bachelor's program emerged successfully from the student survey conducted by the CHE Center for Higher Education Development, achieving an outstanding overall rating of 4.5 stars. Head of Department & Studies Prof. Dr. Peter Mirski emphasizes, "We are thrilled that our efforts in teaching and administration are so positively reflected in the CHE ranking." MCI Professorship for Aleksander Groth
We had every reason to celebrate at the end of the summer semester: To honor his outstanding achievements in research and teaching, MCI awarded our colleague Aleksander Groth the title of professor. In his inaugural lecture, Aleksander spoke about the dynamics of digital firestorms on Reddit and how online communities respond to announcements from game developers. Alumna of the Month: Luica Hemsing
To showcase the work of our alumni and recognize their contributions in various fields, MCI | The Entrepreneurial School honors the Alumni of the Month. We are very pleased that our MCiT bachelor’s alumna, Luica Hemsing, was selected as the July recipient. Luica works as a manager at the Boston Consulting Group in New York City. AWS Grant for Innsbruck Startup Revitalyze
The Innsbruck startup revitalyze, in which our DiBSE graduate Patrick Gössl is a co-founder, received a significant pre-seed grant from the AWS Austrian Economic Service. With this funding, the young team aims to further develop their innovative solution for the reuse of building materials. More information on circular construction as a game-changer can be found here.
MCI Creativity Award for MCiT bachelor's students
Philipp Graf and Lukas Harasser, two of our MCiT bachelor’s students, are among the winners of this year’s MCI Creativity Award. Competing under the team name Wingover, they secured 5th place and the special prize for the most market-ready concept. Their innovative business idea involves producing a natural and sustainable energy drink from a byproduct of coffee production. You can find more innovative business concepts from MCI students here.
MCiT master’s student wins Raiffeisen Award
Our master’s student Philipp Zieroff secured a financial boost in the form of the Raiffeisen Award. We wish Philipp a great time with our Australian partners at the University of Technology Sydney. You can find information on Philipp's future plans, which impressed the jury, in the blog post.

AI4VET4AI Project to Strengthen AI Competencies in Vocational Education
26 partners from 11 European countries are collaborating in the AI-powered Next Generation of VET research project, co-funded by the European Union, until June 2027 to support and promote workforce qualification in Artificial Intelligence (AI) across Europe. At MCI, our colleague Prof. Dr. Stephan Schlögl is leading the project. In the associated blog post, you can learn about our contribution to securing Austria’s position in the digitalization market.
Erasmus+ Project RIGO: Ready, Immerse, and Go!
The goal of this research project is to make international students' experiences abroad more accessible and manageable through virtual reality while also teaching digital skills. Together with the Université Côte d’Azur (France), the Technical University of Košice (Slovakia), and Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki (Finland), our project team led by MCI Professor Aleksander Groth organized international design thinking workshops. In these creative workshop settings with international students, scenarios for a VR platform were developed, which will be implemented by software engineers in the further course of the project. DiBSE at GIRL'S DAY 2024
This year's Girl's Day was held under the motto: "How can I become a problem solver for global challenges?" At our booth, young visitors had the chance to create their own AI using simple tools. You can find more insights into this career orientation day here.
JRZ at the Long Night of Research
On Friday, May 24th, the motto throughout Tyrol was: experience research up close and personal. Our Josef Ressel Center for Security Analysis of IoT Devices also participated in this nationwide event for science communication. At the interactive station, visitors discovered the fascinating world of the Internet of Things (IoT). We demonstrated how easily household devices can become smart, how to control them via the internet, provided information on security risks, and offered visitors the opportunity to find out how secure their own smart home is. Blended Intensive Program: Creative Digital Tools
The Technical University of Košice invites MCI students, as Ulysseus partners, to the Blended Intensive Program (BIP): Creative Digital Tools. This Erasmus+-funded short program in a blended learning format offers students weekly online sessions, self-paced phases, and a 5-day short-term stay in person at the Technical University of Košice in Slovakia. Students, please hand in your application via the application form until August 31, 2024.

Our alumnus Florian Hupfauf, Project Manager at MED-EL, and his colleagues from the International Digital Development Department are looking for support.
