AI & ChatGPT– short-lived trend or fundamental paradigm shift?

Date 2023-02-24

In an interview with Top.Tirol, Professor Oliver Som elaborates on how AI is being used universally in business and how this trend will continue

Prof. Dr. Oliver Som is Professor and Study Coordinator  for Innovation and Technology Management at the MCI Department of Business & Management. In an interview with top.tirol he explains why artificial intelligence (AI) will not be a short-term trend and what economic consequences this progress will have. ChatGPT, Dall-e and Co. have pushed open the door to artificial intelligence. After smaller start-ups, large corporations such as Alphabet and Microsoft are now daring to actively implement the technology, which until now has only done its work subtly in the background.

In his research, Oliver Som examines, among other things, the application potentials as well as the use of new technologies in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and the effects and impacts of new technological solutions on their competitiveness. After studying political and social science at the University of Stuttgart, he completed his doctorate on the innovation behaviour of SMEs at the University of Flensburg. From 2005 to 2015, he held various positions at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research. At MCI, in addition to teaching, he is significantly involved in the development and adaptation of study content and curricula as well as the acquisition and management of research projects (internal, external). He publishes his research results in internationally renowned journals and contributes them to the design of SME innovation policy as a scientific advisor to the German Federal Government and the European Commission.
