Our on-campus days at the MCI in Innsbruck

Date 2022-08-05

This is how we design our synchronous teaching units on site in Innsbruck

A significant component of our blended learning format are the synchronous on-site units at the MCI Campus in Innsbruck. Our students travel to Innsbruck a total of six times per academic year. In addition to the valuable exchange with fellow students and the joint leisure activities in the city, students can also expect a varied program at MCI. In this article we give an exemplary insight into the on-campus days of the academic year 2022/23.

Our lecturers always design the attendance events in a very interactive way and make sure that the journey to Innsbruck represents a valuable added value for our students. The didactic concepts draw on a broad spectrum: guest lectures with exciting discussion rounds, implementation of the tools and methods learned, simulation games or even workshops with experts from the field.

Here are a few examples from our bachelor degree programs:

  • Innovation and Technology Management: The students did a real Design Sprint (Innovation Challenge), in which they implemented important phases of the innovation process to arrive at a first prototype.
  • Entrepreneurship: In addition to exciting guest lectures on the topic of founding a company (field report), as well as on the topic of financial capital in the startup process, the students were  allowed to work on their own pitches. They received valuable input and feedback from the lecturer.
  • Innovation & Entrepreneurship: In this course, the focus was on corporate foresight, which is why the students worked on future scenarios based on their trend and influencing factor analyses.
  • Digital Workplace Learning: Students in this elective module had the opportunity to participate in a "Working Out Loud" workshop by Katharina Krentz (Bosch). Guest speaker Petra Hammerle (GE Learning Solutions) rounded out the day with her inputs on learning cultures.
  • Digital Marketing: In this course, students had to create marketing personas and got to know the Customer Journey Mapping method more closely in its implementation.
  • Strategic Management: Using a strategy game, students had to position their fictitious companies in the market. These game rounds helped them to understand what influences strategies have on the market success of a company.
  • Finance & Investment: A simulation was also used in this course. This time it was a simulation of the stock market to better understand the inputs learned.
  • Fundamentals of Law: With the help of re-enacted court hearings, students were given the opportunity to put into "practice" what they had learned so far.

In the next section you will get an insight into the on-campus days of our master students:

  • Self-Management & Leadership: In this course, students were able to demonstrate their leadership skills in a simulation game.
  • Organizational Behavior: For the on-campus day, students had to work on case studies and present their elaborations in a plenary session, supporting their recommendations for action with knowledge and defending them to their fellow students.
  • Business Psychology: In this course, students experienced a design thinking workshop under the guidance of the company Ekipa.
  • Change Management: On the attendance day, students worked on various business cases while regular inputs were shared in the form of a workshop.
  • Financial Markets: To further understand financial markets independent of the theoretical and practical inputs, students went through a Stock Market Game. The experiences and emerging questions during the simulation were shared afterwards in the large group.
  • Entrepreneurship: Based on their own business ideas, the students developed suitable prototypes.
  • Risk Management: The students were assigned to model companies and had to define risks for these companies and work out appropriate actions.

Of course, these lists only represent a selection of teaching contents, as well as courses, of the study programs. The didactic concepts are also regularly adapted and enhanced with new theories, trends, and tools/methods.
