The "RehaKineTrain" project, initiated under the 2021 Africa-UniNet call, has been successfully implemented. Its goal was to develop pedagogical concepts, teaching methods, and course offerings to train professionals in paramedical therapy and rehabilitation.
A key aspect of the project was the analysis of the current education situation in Burkina Faso. Research findings revealed a significant shortage of qualified physiotherapists. Additionally, the Health Strategy Plan of the Burkinabè Ministry of Health (2016–2020) was examined, highlighting the urgent need for structured training programs. As a result, a new curriculum for medical students in years 4 to 7 was designed. This approach enables students to assist physiotherapists, thereby improving patient care and rehabilitation services.
Through these measures, RehaKineTrain directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) "Good Health and Well-being" by strengthening the healthcare sector, and SDG 4 "Quality Education" by developing new educational structures.
Overall, the project has successfully laid the foundation for a structured physiotherapy training program in Burkina Faso, addressing a critical healthcare need and creating opportunities for future academic and professional development.
