Josef Ressel Center is growing

Date 2022-01-25

The Christian Doppler Research Association approves an increase in the center's budget.

For the "Josef Ressel Centre for the Production of Powdered Activated Carbon from Municipal Residues", the new year starts with good news. The Christian Doppler Research Association approved the expansion of the center, thus enabling the employment of two new staff members.

David Gurtner is now filling a dissertation position and will be working on the topic of waste wood gasification and the activation of gasifier coal. He has already completed his master's thesis, in the Environmental, Process and Energy Engineering program, on this topic with excellent results and will now continue his academic career at the JRC.

Christian Margreiter will work as a student project assistant at the center. He is currently a master student at the Leopold-Franzens-University Innsbruck at the Institute of Microbiology and will support the work in the laboratory from now on. Here he will mainly focus on the analysis of trace substances in order to thoroughly test the effectiveness of activated carbons. In addition, he will further strengthen the already existing cooperation with the Institute of Microbiology.

The Josef Ressel Centre, which was established at the Environmental, Process and Energy Engineering program in the fall of 2020 for a period of five years, is concerned with the development of a manufacturing process for high-quality activated carbon from a byproduct of wood gasification powdered charcoal.
