Online excursion to Roche

Ulrike Strauss started by introducing the Roche site in Penzberg and reported on the history of the site, current developments in research and development, and the products manufactured there.

Michael Oberpriller then presented his path to Roche from his master's thesis to his current day-to-day work. He has now been with Roche for four years and told the interested students about his work, which involves the use of antibodies.

Two of the MCI students attending the virtual excursion shared their experiences in the Roche study collaboration. Antonia Lechner and Sophie Rosenberger have both been working there since July and told us about their work area, but also about the leisure and team activities offered there. In addition to their studies at the MCI, the two work for Roche during the lecture-free periods.

MCI alumni Markus Schönhuber, Christopher Raggl and Scarlett Malafa reported on how successful such a cooperation can be. All three are now successfully working in different departments within the company.

Ulrike Strauss and Eva Lobentanz moderated the event on behalf of Roche and gave an insight into what a start and the first years at Roche can look like. Measures such as training on the job, mentoring and a wide range of professional and personal training support the start.

A highlight at the end was the meeting with Sally Kline, Head of Material Science at Genentech, part of the Roche Group. She shared from her impressive resume and fielded questions from the students. Career planning in a globalized world, differences in the working methods of small and large companies and the importance of interdisciplinary knowledge were topics discussed here.
