Research project for early integration of energy-efficient light into the building plan: "Building Information Modeling to Individual Light (BIM2IndiLight)"
How can sustainable and energy-efficient control of daylight and artificial light be enabled in the early planning phase? How can lighting design simulations and calculations be integrated into the BIM model? These questions are addressed by the research consortium "Building Information Modeling to Individual Light (BIM2IndiLight)" with the participation of ATP architects engineers (Innsbruck), the University of Innsbruck and the Tyrolean companies Bartenbach GmbH and HELLA Sonnen- und Wetterschutztechnik GmbH.
ATP and HELLA both act as two of the renowned partners of the dual study program "Smart Building Technologies" at MCI | The Entrepreneurial School®, starting in September 2021.
As part of this dual study program, students are given a permanent position so that they can acquire a high level of practical expertise during their studies. To date, Eurotherm S.p.A., iDM Energiesysteme GmbH, Mader GmbH, ORTNER Ges.m.b.H., planlicht GmbH & CO KG and SPIEGLTEC GmbH represent further notable partners from the industry. ATP as well as HELLA offer training positions to the students in order to enable teaching and practice in this dual study program to be optimally coordinated.
The main objective of BIM2IndiLight is to extend industrial research into the necessary data structures and tools for the integral BIM planning process to include the lighting technology sector. This is intended to enable coupled photometric and thermal calculations already in the early planning phase. In addition, a basis for the complete calculation of the energy balance for heating, cooling and lighting of buildings will be created increasingly in the start-up phase as well as across all planning phases.
This will ensure lighting optimization in digitized construction planning and comprehensively integrate the topic of lighting control into integral construction planning using Building Information Modeling (BIM) and applicable construction standards. The topic of lighting technology is also anchored in the new dual degree program "Smart Building Technologies" at MCI, which features the above-mentioned holistic-integrative view as its central study philosophy.
