This year's Research Forum of Austrian Universities of Applied Sciences took place on the Villach campus of the Carinthian University of Applied Sciences from April 20 to 21, 2022, and awarded prizes to, among other things, presented thesis projects – the one by Nicolas hit the mark and gave him valuable initial experience in the research world:

"When my colleague and supervisor of my bachelor thesis, Silvia Öttl, asked me if I would like to present the first results of our research at this year's Forum of Austrian Universities of Applied Sciences, I didn't even know what to expect at first. In the end, I was so happy to win second place at the Poster Award. Among other things, I learned two things there. One, that you don't have to do earth-shattering research to design a good poster and win an award. And second, that you don't have to have completed your research to present results at a research conference. At this point, I would like to thank Silvia Öttl and MCI again for their support."

Nicolas Soehlemann is studying in the bachelor's program "Environmental, Process and Energy Engineering" and has been working as a project assistant in the research project of Silvia Öttl, full-time lecturer in the dual bachelor's program "Smart Building Technologies", since February this year.

With the support of IKB (Innsbrucker Kommunalbetriebe GmbH), Nicolas is developing his bachelor thesis from the research project "Optimization potential of energy generation and energy storage in Local Energy Communities in Tyrol" at the moment. The poster with the topic "E-carsharing, hydropower and citizen empowerment: Tyrolean energy communities actively supporting the energy transition" depicts the first results of the research project and thus also represents a milestone for the bachelor thesis.

The Department "Environmental, Process and Energy Engineering" congratulates Nicolas on his successful performance at the conference and wishes him all the best for his further studies and his further steps into the research world.
