Red Dot Design Award for HELLA

Date 2023-02-28

Partner company of the dual study program awarded in the category "Product Design 2022" for smart home interface ONYX.CENTER

The provider of sun and weather protection systems for buildings, headquartered in Abfaltersbach (East Tyrol), wins with its ONYX.CENTER control center in the category "Product Design 2022". The study program warmly congratulates HELLA on the prestigious design award.

The ONYX Centerbox impressed the jury of the Product Design category especially because of its compact shape and simple design. With a side length of 8 centimeters and a height of 1.3 centimeters, ONYX.CENTER is the smallest control center for sun protection on the market. It serves as an interface between the smartphone and the individual control units of HELLA's own ONYX control system. The system is wireless and creates enormous ranges across several rooms with an integrated antenna. Likewise, the centerbox forms the interface to other smart home controls in the building. This makes the centerbox the heart of the smart home, networking heating, ventilation, lighting, sun protection and much more.

Digital sun shading for the smart building

"The control system is effectively the heart and brain of the sun shading system. Only the combination of product with software creates a real system," says Andreas Kraler, managing partner of the HELLA Group. Blinds, Venetian blinds, roller shutters or patio canopies are conveniently controlled by smartphone or tablet via app, voice control or fully automatically. With ONYX.HOME for private customers and ONYX.PRO for larger residential or office complexes, customized and individual control solutions are available.

Saving energy with automated sun protection

With automatic control and integration into the smart home, sun shading products bring With automatic control and integration into the smart home, sun shading products bring enormous potential for a positive building energy balance. When equipped with frahling sensors, the systems can reduce energy consumption even more by acting according to weather data. In winter, the sun's heat radiation should be allowed into the room during the day, because solar energy heats the building free of charge. At dusk and at night, automatic external sun protection such as roller shutters or Venetian blinds in turn create a thermal air cushion. Energy savings of up to 30 percent are thus possible. Intelligent sun shading systems thus make an important contribution to CO2 savings and climate protection.
