Students and faculty from Smart Building Technologies visit the Plansee Group in Reutte

At the beginning of the spring semester, our degree program was delighted to receive a special invitation: on 4 March, CERATIZIT (part of the Plansee Group) opened its doors at the company site in Breitenwang (Reutte district) – providing faculty and students with detailed insights into the new CERATIZIT company building and thus into the structural engineering aspects of planning, constructing, and equipping this extension at the company site in Reutte.

The building complex itself offered an interesting technical aspect: ATP and ORTNER, two companies already active as partner companies at Smart Building Technologies, were involved in the realization of the new CERATIZIT building. A best-practice example of smart cooperation in building construction and its technical equipment!

The site visit was opened by Simon Jost, Managing Director of CERATIZIT Austria GmbH, who presented CERATIZIT as a technology leader in the carbide industry in the context of the group of companies. We were then introduced to the new production building in Kreckelmoos with its facts and figures and the planning side of the technical project implementation.

Equipped with this knowledge, we were able to get to know parts of the production at Plansee's main site. After a short tour of the production site by two process engineers and a joint lunch, we moved on to CERATIZIT's new, innovative production facility - sustainability, energy efficiency and environmental compatibility were the focus of the planning. The wealth of experience of Tobias Raggl (Project Manager CERATIZIT) and Thomas Hueber (Project Manager ATP, now self-employed) as well as Peter Oberhuber from ATP, who gave a guided tour of the new building, was very well received by our detail-hungry students and faculty.

Finally, the guests were allowed to go up high: after explanations on the deliberately greened roof (topic: building envelope) and PV (topic: energy technology), our degree program was able to conclude the excursion day with a view over the alpine world of the Außerfern region from the roof of the new CERATIZIT building.

Our department would like to thank Simon Jost, Managing Director of CERATIZIT Austria GmbH, the two senior technicians Thomas Hueber and Tobias Raggl as well as Peter Oberhuber from ATP, who made a very impressive day at the production facilities in Reutte possible for us with their respective explanations. We look forward to continuing our journey together.
