Hello, we are Franziska and Luca and send you greetings from Canada! We are currently spending our semester abroad at the University of Guelph in Ontario.
Our semester started in September with a Canadian ‘Orientation Week’ with lots of exciting events - an ABBA cover band, an open-air cinema, food trucks, and a canoe trip on the Speed River. Compared to MCI, the campus here is huge and we sometimes feel like we're in an American high school film. The lectures at the university are very demanding, but we use every free minute to explore Canada.
In the first few weeks of summer we were in Toronto, at Niagara Falls and went on a weekend trip to Tobermory and the Bruce Peninsula National Park. During the Fall Break we traveled to Montreal, Quebec, Ottawa and the Algonquin Provincial Park. We got to know many other exchange students right from the start and are having a great time here with them.
The range of sports on offer at the university is very diverse and we can use the Athletics Centre with gym and swimming pool for just 35 euros per semester. We have already tried out many sports courses, our favorites include Pilates, indoor cycling and barre burn, but Quidditch was also very entertaining.
In the meantime, we have got to know and love Canadian culture, including the homecoming game, ice hockey game, Tim Hortons coffee and poutine (Canadian dish with chips, gravy, and cheese curds).
Spending a semester abroad in Canada during Indian Summer is a truly unique experience. We can only recommend everyone to take this step and gain unique experiences that you will remember for the rest of your life.
