During the summer, the staff members of the Medical & Health Technologies department were invited to present their research projects in conferences all over the world.
Simon Winkler at the Hamlyn Symposium in London
Simon Winkler had the opportunity to attend the Hamlyn Symposium at the Royal Geographical Society in London. This symposium, dedicated to Surgical Robotics, has been a benchmark for surgical robotics for 16 years.
Symposium Highlights:
He tried out the latest surgical robots like Medtronic's Hugo and DaVinci Xi, and had insightful chats with their engineers.
The AI in Health Industry Forum was particularly interesting, featuring experts from Roche, Microsoft, Hardian Health, and Google.
Anna-Sophie at the Medical Technology Exhibition in Rome
Anna-Sophie had the incredible opportunity to attend this year's Medical Technology exhibition in Rome. The focus of the event was on medical technology in neonatology and pediatrics, with a special emphasis on ventilation. Additionally, there were amazing lectures covering the entire field of child and adolescent medicine, featuring international speakers.
Exhibition Highlights:
She presented a poster showcasing a segment of her PhD research on ventilation in the clinical initial care of preterm and term infants.
She attended diverse and enlightening talks from global experts in pediatric healthcare.
This research was a collaborative effort between MCI, Salzburger Landeskliniken / Neonatology (SALK), PMU Salzburg, and Université Côte d'Azur / LAMHESS.
Manuel Berger at the Minisymposium on Process Engineering in Graz and the Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery Conferenz in Barcelona
Manuel attended the Minisymposium on Process Engineering in Graz where he was invited to present his research.
He presented his research on “Robot-LDA line measurements on a 30° inclined flat plate in an open wind channel with and without plasma actuation effect.”
Manuel also attended the prestigious CARS (Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery) Conference in Barcelona. This international symposium brought together researchers from all over the world, including Canada, the USA, China, and Japan, to exchange their latest research findings.
Manuel presented the already accepted Q1 journal paper of the corresponding journal. The topic was the development and testing of a smart sensorized guide wire for catheterization in a “blood” vessel phantom to support aortic valve implementation.
Daniel Sieber and Danny Yu in Copenhagen
Head of Department Daniel Sieber and Danny Yu have returned home with a backpack full of ideas (and 3D printed temporal bones).
During their fascinating trip to Copenhagen, they had the privilege to listen and exchange with top researchers on simulation-based clinical training and medical device ergonomics.
Trip Highlights:
Together with our Fulbright Visiting Professor Denny Yu from Purdue University, they met with the Temporal Bone Imaging and Simulation Research Group at Copenhagen Hearing and Balance Centre, Rigshospitalet.
An inspiring guest lecture and discussion of collaborations in research on medical device ergonomics and clinical VR training.
A big thank you goes to the conference organizers for creating such an incredible platform for knowledge exchange and innovation in sports and health sciences.
