Visits to Meta, Google & Co: Recap of the study tour to Dublin

International Business & Law students explore Ireland and meet MCI alumni in top companies

This year's study tour was a special one. Not only did we go to Dublin for the study tour, but MCI lecturers Dr. Czermak and Dr. Degischer left a few days earlier than usual to host an exciting event - but more on that later.

Our annual study tour has been redesigned in the age of interconnectivity and is now split between a virtual element and the classic in-person trip to Dublin. The week before we left for Ireland, our students were invited to webinars with Mondelez, Dell, and Properly, as well as to a virtual alumni networking session hosted by Tesla's Head of Global Markets.

Our study tour began with a visit to the famous cliffs of Howth, which offer breathtaking views of the rough but beautiful Irish Sea. After returning to Dublin, the group headed to the famous Guinness Store House to learn all about the brewery and the secrets of making the world's finest stout.

Tuesday began with a visit to Meta, hosted by International Business & Law alumnus Julius Holaus and his colleague Daniel Winkler. In addition to an exciting tour of the world's largest social network, our students were treated to a delicious lunch in Meta's impressive canteen.

Afterwards, the group visited the Foreign Trade Center of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce, followed by a scavenger hunt on the streets of Dublin organized by the students.

On Wednesday, Microsoft was the first stop of the day. There we were invited to an interesting session on AI, hosted by Tommie Wouters, as well as a rich breakfast in their own canteen. In the afternoon, the group made its way to LinkedIn, where we were delighted to be hosted by another alumna of our program, Mirielle Regenscheit. Mirielle and her colleague Lana took the time to share with our students the secrets of how to properly present yourself on LinkedIn and the opportunities that exist within the network. Another meal was included in our trip. One thing is for sure: our students did not leave any of the companies hungry.

Thursday was the last day of the tour, which started with a trip to Google Ireland. There we were invited to another breakfast, a tour of their impressive headquarters (which includes a game room) and a very interesting presentation about Google's operations. Special thanks to our Tyrolean host Max, who gave our students an unforgettable experience.

The last stop of the tour was Airbnb. You may have guessed it by now, but we were once again hosted by an alumus of our program, Dominick Huber, who works as a team supervisor. Dominick gave the group a tour of the beautiful building, which includes meeting rooms disguised as some famous Airbnb's. To wrap up our experience, we were once again graciously treated to a delicious lunch by the company.

We would like to thank everyone who participated in the tour, each company that took the time to host us, and especially our alumni who shared their experiences with our students.
