Micropollutants and microplastics in the environment are currently major challenges. The wastewater treatment sector in particular plays a key role here, as there are pharmaceutical residues or plastic fibers from washing machines in the wastewater, for example.
Currently, the Tyrolean sewage treatment plants are hardly able to separate these impurities from the wastewater. An additional purification stage is therefore required to achieve a separation before the purified wastewater is discharged into the rivers.
In the "Mobran" project, a mobile test system was developed on a pilot scale, with which membrane separation processes can be investigated on an onsite prototype at the sewage treatment plant operator. This creates a design basis for upgrading this additional purification stage in sewage treatment plants in the future.
