The Horizon project "FLASH" aims at a resilient, European healthcare system

According to the European Commission, "HORIZON EUROPE" is "the EU's most important funding program for research and innovation". In this context, the MCI has been part of the project consortium "Flexible Approaches to Support Health through financing" (FLASH) since the beginning of 2023. Under the leadership of the University of Verona, sixteen partners from nine European countries are working on this European research project to make a decisive contribution to an integrated European healthcare system. This project will identify and study the main mechanisms underlying the relationship between the main challenges facing health systems and their financing.

In addition to the University of Verona and MCI, the consortium includes other universities such as Charles University Prague, Erasmus University Rotterdam and the University of Hamburg, as well as research centers, non-profit organizations and institutions involved in the organization and delivery of healthcare in several European countries. The aim of the project is to provide innovations for the general public and to create a resilient and equitable European healthcare system.

In February 2023, a first meeting of the involved persons took place at the University of Verona to discuss the different work packages and to carry out the necessary coordination between the researchers for the four-year duration of the EU-funded project.

For the MCI, Jean Monnet Professor Dr. Markus Frischhut will work on issues of cross-border health care. In addition to working out the current requirements of EU law, the main task will be to draw up proposals for improvements to future regulations.
