The City
Borlänge has approx. 40,000 inhabitants. During the 20th century Borlänge has been a typical industrial city with a relatively good economic growth, but today the service industry is spreading. Borlänge promotes itself as The Number One Shopping City in Dalarna. This is possible due to the Kupolen area, situated about 1 kilometer west of the city center. Music is an important part of Borlänge. It has been the hometown of many new young musicians in Sweden such as Mando Diao, Sugarplum Fairy and Miss Li.
The University
Högskolan Dalarna is one of Sweden's more recent institutions of higher education, established in 1977.
The college currently has about 12,000 students. Approximately half of them study in Falun, the administrative capital of the province, while the rest study in the neighboring town of Borlänge and via distance education. MCI tourism students always study in Borlänge.
