The City


Münster is an independent city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, and is considered to be the cultural centre of the Westphalia region.
With a population of more than 320,000 inhabitants among which more than 60,000 students Münster has a rich student life. The city is also known as the "bicycle capital" of Germany maintaining an extensive network for bicycles which links all city districts with the inner city.

The University


The University of Münster (until 2023 Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster, WWU) is located in the city of Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany. With some 45,000 students and over 120 fields of study in 15 departments, it is Germany's fifth largest university and one of the foremost centers of German intellectual life. The university offers a wide range of subjects across the sciences, social sciences and the humanities. Several programs including PhD programs are taught in English. The University of Münster is part of the European university network "Ulysseus". The association of eight partner universities has set itself the goal of developing the universities of the future and enhancing the quality and competitiveness of European universities.
