The City
Istanbul is the largest city in Turkey with a population of approx. 16 million inhabitants. It is considered the country's economic, cultural and historic capital. Being located on the Bosphorus Strait it encompasses the natural harbor known as the Golden Horn. It extends both on the Europe (Thrace) and on the Asia (Anatolia) side of the Bosphorus and is the only metropolis in the world that is situated on two continents. Istanbul is primarily known for its Byzantine and Ottoman architecture. Despite its development as a Turkish city since 1923, it contains many ancient, Roman, Byzantine, Christian, Muslim, and Jewish monuments.
As a cosmopolitan metropolis with numerous museums, religious sites, parks, beaches, markets and shopping malls Istanbul offers countless leisure activities.
The University
Koç University was founded in 1993 as a non-profit private university in Istanbul and has become one of the leading universities in Türkiye since then. The university's main campus is located in mid-Northwestern Istanbul, in the Sariyer district on the European Side. From there you can see the Black Sea in the north and the Marmara in the southeast. Koc University also has other campussus located in Istanbul, Antalya as well as Ankara.
