The City


New Haven is a city in Connecticut, United States, located on New Haven Harbor. It was one of the first planned cities in the US with its famous "Nine Square Plan" recognized by the American Planning Association as a National Planning Landmark and today still defining New Haven's downtown. The city is the home of Yale University, New Haven's biggest employer, and an integral part of the city's economy.
With Hartford as Conntecticut's capital, New Haven is referred to as "Cultural Capital of Connecticut" offering numerous theaters, museums and music venues. The city comprises many historical sites among which the Old Campus of Yale University with Connecticut Hall, Yale's oldest building and a National Historic Landmark.


The University


Founded in 1701 Yale is the third-oldest institution of higher education in the United States. Today it is one of the eight Ivy League universities and thus one of the world's most presigious and renowned institutions of higher education. Having its central campus in downtown New Haven, Connecticut, the university also has a campus in West Haven and athletic facilities in western New Haven. Besides Yale University is home to one of the United States' larges University Libraries with more than 15 million volumes. Yale University incorporates Yale College, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and 12 professional schools. Former US Presidents such as George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush count among Yale's graduates.
