Academic Council

The Academic Council of MCI Management Center Innsbruck Internationale Hochschule GmbH is responsible for organizing the teaching and examinations at the MCI. Its specific duties are as follows:

  1. Election of the Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson from a list of three candidates proposed by the Executive Director. The list can be reduced to two with the consent of the Academic Council. The proposed candidates must hold full-time positions. In the event the office-holding Chairperson and/or Deputy Chairperson announces his/her willingness to serve another term of office, he/she may be reappointed without an election subject to the approval by a two-thirds majority of the Academic Council and the approval by the Executive Director. Repeated reappointments are permitted. The Chairperson of the Academic Council shall hold the title of “Head of Academic Affairs” or “Chairperson”.
  2. Applications to be made to the Executive Director for dismissal of the Chairperson or Deputy Chairperson, or opinions to be issued on such intention on the part of the Executive Director, in cases of gross infringement or negligence by the Chairperson or Deputy Chairperson of their duties or their inability to continue to fulfill them.
  3. Changes relating to accredited study programs by mutual agreement with the Executive Director.
  4. Installation and discontinuation of study programs and programs of further education by mutual agreement with the Executive Director.
  5. Budget proposals (investments, operating and personnel expenses) to be submitted to the Executive Director.
  6. Further strategic development, by mutual agreement with the Executive Director, of teaching, applied research and internationalization with a view to ensuring competence- and future-oriented study programs consistent with university standards.
  7. Coordination of all teaching at the content level.
  8. Assuring the quality of teaching and research and evaluation of all teaching, including curricula and examination regulations.
  9. Conferment of customary academic honorary awards by mutual agreement with the Executive Director.
  10. Issuing rules of procedure and a statute by mutual agreement with the Executive Director. The statute shall be published in suitable form and shall include the curricula and examination regulations, rules for the election of the Academic Council, the establishment of working groups and their statutes, quorum rules for the Academic Council, equality plan, provisions on the installation and discontinuation of study programs and programs of further education, and guidelines for the conferral and use of academic titles and for the award of academic honors.
  11. Rulings on complaints lodged against decisions taken by study program directors.

The Chairperson of the Academic Council shall have the following duties:

  1. If the relevant persons hold full-time positions, to allocate tasks and give instructions to faculty and research personnel with a view to ensuring smooth teaching operations and a quality- and practice-oriented education consistent with university standards, and in connection with quality assurance to allocate tasks and give technical instructions to study program directors and heads of academic organizational units.
  2. The granting of teaching assignments based on proposals submitted by, or upon consultation with, the Academic Council.
  3. Representation of the Academic Council towards third parties, implementation of the resolutions of the Academic Council.
  4. Awarding and revocation of academic degrees and recognition of academic degrees earned abroad.
  5. Proposals to be submitted to the Executive Director for the appointment of heads of academic organizational units and of faculty and research personnel.
  6. Awarding contracts for, and collaboration in, external quality assurance procedures, by mutual agreement with the Executive Director.
