Responsibility

Responsibility

MCI Center for Responsible Management & Social Impact

At "MCI | The Entrepreneurial School", we are committed to tackling the challenges of our time. This requires innovative thinking, agility, creativity, perseverance, enthusiasm and a willingness to take risks - characteristics that correspond closely to our entrepreneurial philosophy and mission. These are characterised by a "can-do approach", which allows us to see challenges as opportunities and unresolved issues as chances for creativity and innovation.

Our Mission

Supporting and promoting education and action for Responsibility, Sustainability & Ethics to drive societal impact and engagement.

#responsibleMCI

We aim to fulfil this mission by:

  • preparing our students for a complex and uncertain world, providing them with the knowledge, skills and competencies to act and lead responsibly, sustainably and ethically;

  • achieving real impact through our research: for positive and sustainable technological, economic, social and environmental development;

  • stimulate, support and advance the discourse around commitment, responsibility, sustainability and ethics in our own sphere of influence, in our networks in science, business and society, and provide platforms for exchange, debate and new ideas.

The MCI Center for Responsible Management & Social Impact initiates, coordinates and supports measures, projects and activities to reach these goals. We work in close cooperation with internal and external partners. We actively participate in national and international networks, in particular the UN initiative "Principles for Responsible Management Education" (PRME), the UN Global Compact, the "Alliance of Sustainable Universities", the network "Scholars at Risk" and other initiatives, projects and institutions.

The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) form a comprehensive common framework for this.

MCI PRME/SDG Task Force

Objectives

  • To foster cross-MCI communication and collaboration in the areas of Responsible Management, Sustainability and Ethics.

  • Identify and build on synergies and common interests to advance the integration of PRME and the SDGs across MCI.

  • Plan, coordinate and implement joint MCI-wide initiatives on PRME and the SDGs.

  • Create the nucleus of a platform and community to engage with PRME and SDG-related agendas and continue to represent them in the wider community.

Tasks

  • The SDG/PRME Ambassadors act as multipliers for PRME and the SDGs within their department/team/area of influence.

  • They act as communicators between their own spheres of influence and the Task Force and the Center for Responsible Management & Social Impact.

  • They actively contribute to selected activities - depending on their capacity and interest - and actively work on projects and initiatives where possible and appropriate.

  • They contribute ideas, needs and reflections to further develop the agendas around Responsible Management, Sustainability and Ethics at MCI.

Coordination

The Task Force meets at least once a quarter, with additional meetings where necessary, and is coordinated by the Head of the Center for Responsible Management & Social Impact.

Regardless of our role, whether we are just a regular citizen or a business leader, everyone makes decisions and each decision can have a huge impact. At MCI, we are encouraged to start thinking outside the box and have the chance to meet people who want to make our world a better place to live.

The incredible complexity and entanglement of society’s key problems poses a great challenge. Because of this complexity, we cannot rescue the earth alone.  In order to keep our planet habitable, we need to act together, and we need to act now. The various workshops I attended at MCI were not only informative, but strongly influenced my mindset towards a sustainable future.
