MCI has introduced a range of innovative study programs which, being based on online learning, make it possible to gain top-class Bachelor and Master degrees without having to be present in Innsbruck full-time. “Blended learning”, i.e. the combination of on-campus and regularly organized online classes, enables particularly athletes to complete degrees regardless of their current location. Students are able to participate in classes even while they are at training camps, competitions, or travelling.The innovative mobile learning strategy pursued by MCI has been a major success. Both the Business Administration Online Bachelor degree program launched in 2014 and the MBA Online program introduced one year later are highly popular. The excellent performance of graduates is also proof of the high quality of the courses, and testimony to MCI’s pioneering role as Entrepreneurial School®.With the recently concluded cooperation agreement with MCI, KADA once more demonstrates its commitment to top-class Austrian athletes. The partnership provides a valuable addition to KADA’s comprehensive services in career development and professional integration of sportsmen and –women.The number of athlete applications already received by MCI is considerable: peak performance in sports and top academic achievements online will thus soon go hand in hand.{phocagallery view=category|categoryid=1141}Press contactMag. SWARCO RAIDERS Tyrol train with MCI technology
SWARCO RAIDERS Tyrol train with MCI technology
MCI Department for Mechatronics developed football machine for the training of five-time Austrian Bowl Champion SWARCO RAIDERS: the prototype achieves shooting precision of professional quarterbacks and increases international interest in the know-how of the Entrepreneurial School®What may be common practice at United States colleges and universities only found its way into the European educational system last fall, when the Innsbruck-based American football club SWARCO RAIDERS Tirol and Management Center Innsbruck joined forces to launch a unique cooperation under the motto “Let’s Win Together”. A group of mechatronics students supervised by project manager Bernhard Hollaus have now introduced the prototype of an innovative football machine developed within the frame of a project initiated by the cooperation.The innovative device can shoot balls at a distance of up to 70 meters and a speed of up to 100 kilometers per hour. Throwing balls across the entire 120-yard long football field, the machine can simulate football passes in a consistent manner. The accuracy of +/- 30 centimeters per 20 meters corresponds to the actual shooting precision of an experienced quarterback: the machine can thus hit a target as small as a bucket. There is currently not a single machine on the market for American football achieving such precision levels as the MCI prototype.At the same time, the machine allows for easy operation via a specifically developed app. In the upcoming year, the machine shall already be used in the training of the AFL Champion. The remaining months will be used to optimize the prototype with regard to trajectory planning, energy self-sufficiency, and friction modelling. Providing an innovative opportunity for receivers to practice pass-catching, the optimized machine shall increase the over-all efficiency of the training of the SWARCO RAIDERS Tirol team.StatementsGerwin Wichmann, General Manager of SWARCO RAIDERS Tirol: “The partnership between SWARCO RAIDERS Tirol and MCI builds on promising synergies: following the American tradition of college football, it establishes a link between highly professional amateur sports and advanced education. The present project is a perfect example of the innovative and productive cooperation.”Shuan Fatah, Head Coach of SWARCO RAIDERS Tirol: “I am impressed with the speedy implementation of the project. Both the electronic set-up of the machine and the app for its operation give reason to expect a high-end product with enormous potential. I am truly excited and looking forward to using the football machine for our training.”Bernhard Hollaus, Project Manager and Research Assistant at the MCI Department for Mechatronics: “As Entrepreneurial School®, we are particularly committed to equipping our students with practical know-how and offering our partners innovative ideas and solutions for added value. We are absolutely delighted to be able to support the successful football team of SWARCO RAIDERS Tirol.”{phocagallery view=category|categoryid=1140}Press contact{mcicontact view=presse|id=1}

MCI students visit ‘Höpperger Ressourcenpark’
Renowned waste disposal company supports Management Center Innsbruck: students of Environmental, Process & Energy Engineering experience waste management in practiceThe visit to Höpperger, leading waste disposal company of Tyrol, is integral part of the course “Recycling Processes” offered within the frame of the MCI study program in Environmental, Process & Energy Engineering. Presenting an overview of the development of waste management, the course culminates in the excursion to the ‘Höpperger Ressourcenpark’. The sorting plants of the ‘Tiroler Recycling Gesellschaft’ for lightweight packaging and the sorting plants of the ‘Elektro-Altgeräte Register’ for waste electrical equipment are among the most advanced in Europe. They perfectly illustrate the degree of material purity obtained by the efficient combination of technology and manual sorting and required from sustainable waste management. The use of appropriate containers and trucks is also discussed.Along with comprehensive and practically relevant projects, excursions such as the present take a special place in each MCI study program. On the one hand, they allow students to complement their theoretical knowledge with practical insights and provide an appropriate frame for questions and the exchange with experienced professionals. On the other hand, they enable industrial partners to profit from the creative minds of our students and MCI’s expertise in research, technology, and innovation.The Tyrolean family enterprise Höpperger ranks among the leaders in innovative European waste disposal and waste processing. The company even developed a special procedure for the recycling of used and collected Nespresso capsules. This innovative energy makes MCI particularly proud of the close cooperation: “To have one of Europe’s best waste disposal companies right on our doorstep is a gift to our students”, Marco Rupprich, Head of Department and Studies, emphasizes. “I want to seize the opportunity to thank Manager Harald Höpperger for opening the doors to his company and granting invaluable insights into the practice of waste disposal and processing. The feedback from our students is positive throughout.”Further information:MCI study programs in Environmental, Process & Energy Engineering Bachelor program in Environmental, Process & Energy Engineering Master program in Environmental, Process & Energy Engineering {phocagallery view=category|categoryid=1132}Press contact{mcicontact view=presse|id=1}

MCI-Lecturer Niki Canham awarded with British Council commendation
Niki Canham, Lecturer in the Business and Management Department, has been awarded a commendation in the British Council Masters Dissertation Award for research with the best potential for impact on English Language Teaching (ELT)The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities, and each year they partner with British universities to find Master’s level research with the potential for impact on policy and practice and to celebrate the brightest minds in ELT (British Council, 2016).UK universities choose and submit one Master’s dissertation from the student body on their ELT programmes, and Niki’s dissertation was selected to represent Lancaster University, UK in the competition. Niki finished his MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) by Distance at Lancaster University in summer 2015 with an outstanding MA dissertation on ‘Using Technological Tools for Peer Response’, supervised by Lancaster’s Dr Marije Michel. The study explored how three non-commercial open-source and free-to-use digital platforms (Sakai – the MCI’s learning management system, wikis, and Google Docs) can be used for students to provide written feedback on each other’s work. The study also investigated the effects of the platforms on the feedback provided and the students’ experiences of using them. The study distinguishes itself from earlier work as it does not present a comparison of technology-enhanced online feedback versus face-to-face feedback but, instead, focuses on digital tools in their own online context.Niki Canham’s study contributes particular practical relevance as it will help teachers and course designers of all disciplines to make more informed decisions about using technology for peer feedback in a pedagogically purposeful manner.{phocagallery view=category|categoryid=1137}Press contact{mcicontact view=presse|id=1}
MCI expands international network
MCI expands international network
More renowned universities enter into cooperation with MCI: the Entrepreneurial School® shifts attention southwards – prestigious partner universities in Italy, Portugal, Spain, and Peru provide excellent opportunities for students, lecturers, and researchers and revive Innsbruck as a science locationThe Entrepreneurial School® continues international expansion by entering into cooperation with a number of high-ranking universities. The new MCI partners are at the top of respective academic landscapes and also rank among the best on an international level.Specifically, MCI now also holds partnership agreements with LUISS University in Rome, the Nova School of Business and Economics in Lisbon, the University of Deusto in Bilbao, and the ESAN University in Peru.LUISS is an independent, private university and, next to Bocconi University in Milan, known as the best business school in Italy. Located in the stunning gardens of Villa Borghese at the heart of the Italian capital Rome, LUISS is closely affiliated with the General Confederation of Italian Industry, commonly referred to as Confindustria.The two universities on the Iberian Peninsula also rank among the European elite of business schools. Particularly remarkable is that the Nova School of Business & Economics is one of the few institutions world-wide to have been awarded the three most important international accreditations and thus to have been distinguished by AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA simultaneously. Having awarded the first business degree in Spain in 1916, the University of Deusto in Bilbao is considered an innovative pioneer of the Spanish academic world. With their southern flair and economic advantage, Lisbon and Bilbao are two of the most exciting cities of Europe. In addition, part of the University of Deusto campus is located in the Basque capital and the 2016 European Capital of Culture San Sebastián.The home of the fourth institution recently added to the list of MCI partners is even more exotic: ESAN University is situated in Lima, Peru’s capital city. The institution was established through an initiative by John F. Kennedy, who wanted to enrich Latin America with the introduction of business programs meeting the standards of American universities. Since its foundation in 1963, ESAN university thus belongs to the most dynamic business schools of Latin America. It is one of the very few South American universities to have been accredited by AACSB.Susanne Lichtmanegger, Head of the International Relations Office at MCI, is delighted: “The four universities are among the world’s best business schools. They provide our students, lecturers, and researchers with unique opportunities for boosting their academic career, broadening their cultural horizon, and establishing valuable networks.”MCI Rector Andreas Altmann adds: “Ever since its foundation 20 years ago, the Entrepreneurial School® has built on the strategy of internationalization. The conclusion of renowned partnership contracts as well as the consistent satisfaction of our students are proof of the strategy’s success. MCI thus regularly appears at the top of national and international rankings.”{phocagallery view=category|categoryid=1026}Press contact{mcicontact view=presse|id=1}

MCI welcomes the extension of educational and research opportunities
MCI welcomes the extension of educational and research opportunities
A 100 million Euro go towards the creation of 5,000 technical college study opportunities: an investment in the future to safeguard innovation, competitive advantage, jobs and prosperity“We are delighted to hear of the decision of the federal government to use the means derived from the redesign of the bank contributions to invest in the growth of the technical colleges”, MCI Rector Andreas Altmann states in an interview with the press.At present there are three to four applications for a study place at the Management Centre Innsbruck (MCI) and many highly qualified and motivated young people are denied the opportunity to study due to a lack of space. The same is true for the demand for MCI graduates in the Austrian labor market, which can only be met in a minority of cases. The need for problem-oriented research cannot be covered by the existing capacities, thus impeding regional internationalization, growth and value gain and creating a significant bottleneck for the economy of the region.“The decision of the federal government is a significant sign of a new course for the future. We hardly know of a more effective measure to encourage innovation, competitive advantage, jobs and prosperity and to secure social cohesion”, Rector Altmann summarizes the assessment of the Entrepreneurial School®.{phocagallery view=category|categoryid=1128}Press contact{mcicontact view=presse|id=1}
High-ranking Taiwanese delegation pays MCI a visit
High-ranking Taiwanese delegation pays MCI a visit
Opportunities for MCI students in future growth regionsRecently MCI was visited by a Taiwanese delegation that included highest academic dignitaries from the Asian island. Among the 19 decision makers who paid a visit to MCI in the course of an extended tour through Austria were the one-time education minister Ovid Tzeng and the president of the National Taipei University of Technology Leehter Yao as well as the presidents and deans of six different Taiwanese universities.The exclusive atmosphere at MCI was also made use of by representatives of the universities of applied sciences in Kufstein and Vorarlberg to seek and extend cooperation with Taiwanese universities. Taiwan is one of the tiger states in Asia and combines the diligence and ambition of the Chinese with the democratic standards and the legal framework of the western world. In some fields Taiwan has already overtaken Europe. This fact is particularly evident in technology. Thus cooperation with technical and scientific colleges and universities in Taiwan is particularly promising.During the visit a general agreement with the National Yunlin University of Science and Technology was signed. This internationally accredited University in Douliu City follows seven other Taiwanese universities with whom MCI has already established partnerships. With two universities, the Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology and the National Taipei University of Technology, agreements on student exchanges have been reached.MCI Rector Andreas Altmann enthuses: “In Autumn 2015 I had the opportunity to visit a number of universities in Taiwan that have now become established partner institutions of MCI. Taiwan is not merely a breathtakingly beautiful country. I was also impressed by the diligence, innovative drive and the high level of attainment in the Taiwanese educational sector.”Susanne Lichtmannegger, Head of International Relations, adds: “Taiwan might still appear like an exotic destination but it is a sign of far-sightedness that MCI is particularly intent upon this country. MCI does not want to rely on well-trodden paths with partnerships in Europe and the USA but strives to show presence in present and future growth regions. This will enable us to provide our students with unique opportunities.”{phocagallery view=category|categoryid=1127}Press contact{mcicontact view=presse|id=1}
